If you’re looking for something to do while you’re staying in Melbourne, take a short drive from the hotel to visit the Brevard Zoo. The zoo is one of the most popular attractions in the area. It also ranked among some of the top zoos in the country. The Brevard Zoo is the perfect destination for animal lovers. While the animals are enough of a reason to visit the Brevard Zoo, there’s plenty more to do there as well. It’s also a great destination for anyone visiting the Holiday Inn Melbourne, whether you’re going alone or visiting with family. Guests of all ages will love all that the zoo has to offer.

When you visit the Brevard Zoo, you also know you’re supporting a good cause. The zoo aims to give responsible and professional care for the animals they take in. They’re also committed to educating the public about the importance of wildlife care and conservation through training programs and workshops. Native Florida species are also supported and cared for through the Brevard Zoo’s efforts. The zoo acts as a rehabilitation center for many animals, providing care for a variety of different species until they’re in good enough health to be returned to their natural habitat.

Exotic Animals

At the Brevard Zoo, you’ll be able to see over 900 different animals. Get to know some of the most well known Florida animals, like alligators, crocodiles, bobcats, and turtles. Animals at the zoo don’t only include Floridian animals, animals from all over the world call the Brevard Zoo home. Some of the regions that animals in the zoo come from are Africa, South America, Asia, and Australia. Most visitors will already be familiar with some common animals and birds in the zoo, but there are also many unique animals to learn about. There’s even an aquarium where you can watch sea animals like crabs and stingrays.

Animal Encounters

During your time at the zoo, you won’t just get to watch the animals from a distance. Brevard Zoo offers chances to get to interact with animals up close through their animal encounters program. Zookeepers will be available to give talks about the animals and answer any questions guests may have. Animals encounters are perfect for anyone who wants to get more information on animals and the work that goes into caring for them. Different animals encounters are offered daily, featuring animals like bears, goats, giraffes, and jaguars.

Kayaking Tours

One of the most unique parts of the Brevard Zoo is their guided kayak tour. Guests above the age of five can kayak through the waters surrounding the Expedition Africa exhibit. This gives you the chance to see rhinos, giraffes, and zebras, all while having fun kayaking. There’s also a self-guided kayak tour through the zoo’s restored wetlands where you can see local wildlife.

Paws On

For animals lovers, getting a chance to pet the animals is one of the best parts of any trip to the zoo. At the Brevard Zoo, they want you to be able to have a great experience with the animals. The Paws On area of the zoo allows you to have a safe space to pet and feed some of the animals. Just a few of the animals in the petting zone are alpacas and chickens. A wide variety of sea animals from the aquarium are also available to interact with inside of a touch-tank.

Treetop Trek

If you’re looking for a little more adventure during your trip, you might want to try getting an aerial view of the zoo. Through Treetop Trek, you can see the zoo while you’re gaining new skills. Many people say seeing the animals with a bird’s eye view is even better than walking through the zoo. There are a variety of obstacle courses for visitors of all levels and ages. If you don’t want to try making your way through the different courses, you can do the zip line tour instead. This gives you a great view of the wetlands around the zoo.

Cape to Cairo Express

For those who would rather sit back and relax, the Brevard Zoo’s train ride might be the best part. Enjoy a ten-minute excursion through the park for a nice break while still getting to enjoy seeing the animals. Some of the animals you can see during the train ride are camels and ostriches. The ride is narrated by a guide, so you’ll stay well informed the whole time.

Indian River Play Lagoon

It can get extremely hot in Florida, which can be especially difficult if you’re traveling with children. While you’re at the zoo, let your kids cool off in the Indian River Play Lagoon. Children of all ages can play in the Indian River Play Lagoon, but most of it is intended for toddlers to use. The area includes a wading pool and different water features for children to play in.
